Bitcoin has a fixed cap of 21 million coins. Here’s how issuance works, why the cap matters, and what mining really requires.

How many bitcoins you can mine per month depends on hash rate, difficulty, hardware, and electricity—not a fixed number.

Bitcoins are made through mining: miners compete to add new blocks, and the protocol releases new BTC as block rewards under fixed rules.

Bitcoin was not created all at once. From the start, the protocol set a hard cap of 21 million BTC, released gradually over time.

Bitcoin does not run out all at once. New BTC issuance slows on a fixed schedule and only gradually approaches the 21 million cap.

Bitcoins are issued through mining, block rewards, and a preset halving schedule, not by a central company or government.
