In August 2026, the crypto industry suffered 50 major hacker attacks, a 67% increase from July, but total losses dropped to $136.3 million, down 49.5% month-over-month, according to PeckShield. The largest single loss was Tectonicfi, which lost around $74 million. Cronos, after pausing its network, saw only about $6 million transferred out. Meanwhile, digital asset security firm AEREDIUM introduced AERSeal, a threshold signature solution that replaces single private keys controlling privileged smart contract functions. The product splits key shares and stores them in hardware-authenticated secure enclaves, supporting Ethereum Virtual Machine and compatible chains. AERSeal does not reconstruct the full private key but generates signatures using the CGGMP24 threshold signature protocol. AEREDIUM founder and CEO Albert Dadon said the product can transfer minting, upgrade, and other permissions to threshold keys, with on-chain verification confirming the transfer. Clients can independently verify the threshold keys assigned to them. (Reported by Bitcoin.com News)

Crypto hacks spiked in August 2026. Hard. PeckShield data shows 50 major attacks for the month, which is a 67% jump from July. But the money lost went the other way: total losses came in at $136.3 million, down 49.5% month over month.

The biggest single hit landed on Tectonicfi, which lost about $74 million. Cronos, by contrast, kept the damage to roughly $6 million after temporarily pausing its network.

Against that backdrop of nonstop security worries, digital asset security firm AEREDIUM said it is launching AERSeal, a threshold signature product. The idea is simple: replace the single private key that controls privileged smart contract functions, including minting and upgrades.

AERSeal breaks that private key into shares, then stores each share inside a hardware-authenticated secure enclave. It works with Ethereum Virtual Machine as well as other compatible chains.

And there’s a key detail here. The system never rebuilds the full private key. Instead, it produces signatures through the CGGMP24 threshold signature protocol.

AEREDIUM founder and CEO Albert Dadon said the product makes it possible to move control of permissions such as minting and upgrades to threshold keys, with the transfer verified on-chain. Clients, he said, can also independently verify the threshold keys assigned to them. (Reported by Bitcoin.com News)
