Cardano’s native token ADA first sank to a four-year low, then rebounded sharply by 12% within hours. Beneath the volatile price action, on-chain data and ecosystem fundamentals tell a mixed story.
Leios Testnet Countdown: Throughput Could Surge 33x
The Leios testnet, approved via a community vote on May 25, is scheduled to go live on June 23. The Cardano Foundation targets full mainnet integration between October and December 2026. Leios is designed to boost monthly transaction capacity from 800,000 to roughly 27 million — a 33-fold increase. As a proof-of-stake network, Cardano’s technical roadmap has long drawn attention, and Leios is seen as a critical scaling upgrade.
Dormant Wallets Stir, Historically a Turning-Point Signal
Blockchain analytics firm Santiment observed that ADA’s “Mean Dollar Invested Age” had been rising, but recently, long-inactive addresses suddenly moved significant funds. The “Age Consumed” indicator showed multiple pronounced spikes over 4-5 day periods, including the sharpest surge since April. Santiment notes that similar wallet behavior has historically coincided with major market inflection points for ADA — though it does not guarantee an immediate price reversal.
DeFi TVL, DEX Volume, and Stablecoins All Slide
According to DeFiLlama, Cardano’s total value locked in decentralized finance dropped from 593.93 million ADA on June 4 to 552.01 million ADA on June 9 — a net outflow of 41.92 million ADA in five days. Decentralized exchange daily volume collapsed from $10.77 million to just $2.43 million over the same period. Stablecoin circulation also shrank from $54 million to $46 million. The suspension of TapTools and JPG Store between May 27 and June 3 further dampened ecosystem activity.
Hoskinson: “Market Perception Has Lagged”; Technicals Need Confirmation
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson admitted in a recent podcast that the network has fallen behind in market perception. Still, he insists Cardano successfully balances scalability, security, and decentralization. Technically, the 4-hour RSI bounced from an oversold reading of 12 to 46 on June 9, still short of a clear bullish signal. Analysts suggest that if ADA can break above the $0.174 resistance, a rounded bottom pattern could push prices toward $0.195.
Overall, the short-term price bounce contrasts with weakening on-chain fundamentals. Whether the Leios testnet can reverse the ecosystem’s downward trend remains to be seen.
