Agora, a startup building stablecoin infrastructure, has raised $50 million in a Series A funding round led by Dragonfly Capital. The company plans to use the capital to accelerate the development of its full-stack stablecoin platform, which it describes as purpose-built to support the next generation of digital finance applications.

Funding Details and Vision

Stablecoins are gaining traction across the cryptocurrency ecosystem, and financial institutions are racing to integrate them into their business models. Agora aims to become an enabler for other companies to launch their own stablecoins. The company already issues AUSD, a stablecoin with a current market cap of $150 million. Unlike most centralized stablecoins, AUSD proposes sharing revenue generated from the underlying collateral with partners, incentivizing adoption.

Whitelabel Platform Launched

To lower the barrier for stablecoin issuance, Agora recently introduced a whitelabel platform that allows third parties to issue, manage, and operate stablecoins without needing to build complex infrastructure, secure banking relationships, or manage liquidity. “No need to manage complex infrastructure, secure banking relationships, liquidity, or build from scratch – Agora handles it all,” the company stated, adding that building the network was the first step toward creating a true platform.

Focus on Non-US Markets

Agora co-founder Jan Van Eck emphasized that the company will continue to concentrate on markets outside the United States. He noted that inflation and cross-border payment demands are driving stronger interest in stablecoins abroad. “A lot of different financial institutions outside of the U.S., I would say, are looking more aggressively and will be quicker to move than some of the companies in the U.S.,” he said, adding that many U.S. firms are still in the discussion phase.

Industry Implications

The investment from Dragonfly underscores growing confidence in the stablecoin sector and the need for customizable, decentralized issuance infrastructure. By reducing the complexity of launching a stablecoin, Agora’s platform could accelerate the digitization of global payments and financial systems, particularly in emerging markets where traditional banking infrastructure is limited.
