According to TechFlow, citing a June 13 report from PrimeMinister.kz, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev met with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee during his visit to Hong Kong. The two sides discussed expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as collaboration in fintech innovation. The main event of the visit was the “Alatau City China Roadshow” investment roundtable, which drew participation from a number of leading investment funds, financial institutions and technology companies in Hong Kong.
Six agreements focus on digital infrastructure and Web3 cooperation
During the roundtable, the Alatau City administration signed six cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding with several international companies. ANT Digital Technologies, a unit of Ant Group, will explore participation in the construction of Alatau City’s digital infrastructure and the implementation of advanced fintech solutions. The Solana Foundation reached cooperation with Alatau City on Web3 ecosystem development, blockchain technology talent training and support for technology startups.
The agreements also included investment arrangements beyond the digital technology and blockchain sectors. Dasco Capital and Templewater signed a memorandum of understanding under which they plan to jointly establish a private equity fund. The fund is intended to focus on projects in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, with Alatau City listed as a priority investment direction.
Hong Kong investment and development companies join talks
The report also stated that the Kazakhstan delegation held meetings with senior executives from major Hong Kong investment and development companies, including Henderson Land Development, Far East Consortium, Sunwah Group and Bosera Funds. Together with the Alatau City China Roadshow, these talks formed the key business activities of the Hong Kong visit, with discussions centered on investment, development, fintech and cross-regional cooperation.
Alatau City is a new economic growth center being advanced under the direction of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The city has a special legal regime and has drawn on Hong Kong’s experience in investor protection and international regulatory standards. The Hong Kong roadshow and the signing of multiple agreements represented a concentrated effort by Alatau City to connect with international companies, financial institutions and technology ecosystems.
