These choices, Taaki argued, point to an older individual, likely from an engineering or physics discipline rather than a pure software developer’s background.

The consistency of Satoshi’s code from 2008 to 2010 makes it a reliable dataset for “code stylometry” or software forensics. Taaki emphasized that whenever someone claims to be Satoshi, the first response should be to compare their coding style with the original. Yet, he admitted that no Bitcoin coder—himself included—has taken the time to perform such an analysis. “We’re all so busy with real work. And I guess we also respect Satoshi-kun’s wishes. Even writing this post showing how we can find him feels almost like a betrayal,” Taaki remarked.

Code stylometry works much like traditional literary stylometry: it analyzes unique habits—including naming conventions, indentation, comment patterns, and loop structures—to identify the author of a piece of code. In Satoshi’s case, the consistent quirks provide a potentially powerful forensic tool, though it remains largely untapped.

Taaki also acknowledged Peter Todd’s handling of the documentary’s accusation, praising him for not taking undue credit. The broader crypto community has largely dismissed Todd’s involvement, and Taaki’s technical observations offer a more constructive path forward. Yet, the lack of serious investigation suggests a collective, unspoken agreement: many believe that unmasking Satoshi might diminish the spirit of decentralization and privacy that Bitcoin embodies.
