Anchorage Digital, the first crypto company in the U.S. to hold a federal banking charter, has launched custody support for TRX, the native token of the TRON network. Institutions can now hold and manage TRX through its platform or self-custody wallet Porto within a fully regulated framework, bypassing the need to run nodes or navigate compliance hurdles.
The integration follows a phased plan. The first stage enables TRX custody immediately. The second stage will add support for TRC-20 tokens built on TRON. The final stage introduces native TRX staking, allowing institutions to earn rewards while helping validate the network. Timelines for subsequent phases have not been disclosed.
First Federally Chartered TRON Integration
Nathan McCauley, CEO of Anchorage Digital, said the move brings “one of crypto’s largest ecosystems into an institutional setup,” making it easier for traditional firms to access the network. He noted this marks the first time a federally chartered crypto infrastructure provider has integrated TRON in a compliant U.S. environment, removing a key barrier that previously limited institutional participation.
Stablecoin Growth Drives TRON Adoption
TRON has become one of the busiest blockchains for stablecoin transfers and payments. The amount of stablecoins on the network has grown steadily over the past three years, now standing near $86 billion — more than a quarter of the global stablecoin supply. With regulated custody in place, institutions can hold TRX directly via Anchorage without dealing with technical deployment or separate compliance reviews, lowering the entry barrier significantly.
Multi-Chain Strategy Expands
Anchorage Digital already supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, BNB Chain, plus layer-2 networks Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and Linea. Adding TRON fills a gap in high-activity ecosystems. The firm’s recent additions of Sui and Aptos suggest that regulatory clarity, not technical readiness, has been the primary constraint for network expansion.
Meanwhile, institutional adoption is accelerating across the industry. Coinbase recently introduced a mortgage structure that allows borrowers to use crypto assets like Bitcoin and USDC as collateral. These developments together signal a deepening integration between traditional finance and digital asset infrastructure.
