Apex Group, after acquiring tokenization specialist Tokeny last year, has launched the Omnes Mining Note (OMN) on Coinbase's Base network. The product is structured as a tokenized note backed by Bitcoin mining revenue, designed to give qualified non-US investors direct access to the profits from newly minted bitcoins.
Each OMN represents 1 petahash per second (PH/s) of mining capacity with a 36-month maturity. Ownership is recorded in parallel via traditional bookkeeping and the Ethereum-based ERC-3643 protocol, a standard developed by Tokeny for managing real-world assets on-chain. This dual-recording system ensures both security and transparency for holders.
Investors Bypass Mining Hassle, Directly Capture BTC Yield
The product structure shields investors from the operational complexities of crypto mining—no need to set up rigs, manage hardware, or deal with energy and regulatory issues. Peter Hughes, founder and CEO of Apex Group, noted that the OMN token unlocks possibilities unavailable in traditional notes: qualified holders can transfer OMN digitally, and in the future, may use the tokens as collateral in permissioned lending deals, broadening liquidity and use cases.
Base Network Hosts First Regulated Mining-Backed Debt Instrument
The issuance follows Apex's recent move to make its Coinbase Bitcoin Yield Fund accessible on Base. The collaboration between Apex and Coinbase aims to deliver compliant, blockchain-native financial products to a broader set of institutional clients. Jesse Pollak, creator of Base, called the launch a "major leap forward," arguing that a regulated, blockchain-native debt instrument bridges the gap between the crypto sector and the real economy.
Omnes CEO: Returns Stem From Protocol-Mined New Bitcoin, Not Resale
Emmanuel Montero, CEO of Omnes, stressed that OMN's returns are generated through protocol-based mining of new Bitcoin, differentiating it from products reliant on reselling existing tokens. The model offers a distinct value proposition—direct exposure to the yield from freshly minted Bitcoin, rather than recycling coins on secondary markets. OMN is currently available to qualified non-US investors, with plans to expand global reach.
