Apple is extending its 'Ultra' branding beyond the Apple Watch and M-series chips to a wider product lineup. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and multiple supply chain analysts, a foldable iPhone and a brand-new MacBook Ultra will be the first devices to carry the Ultra label. If accurate, the long-standing 'Pro/Pro Max' naming scheme for iPhones would be disrupted — Ultra becomes the highest tier.
Foldable iPhone Specs: 7.76-inch Screen, A20 Pro, $2,000+
Combining leaks from MacRumors, Ming-Chi Kuo, and Display Supply Chain Consultants' Ross Young, the rumored foldable iPhone sports a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.76-inch inner foldable OLED LTPO panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio — similar to an iPad mini. It folds inward like the Galaxy Z Fold, measuring about 4.5mm when open and 9.23mm folded (camera bump up to 13mm). The processor is a TSMC 2nm A20 Pro. Biometrics shift to side-mounted Touch ID (Face ID's TrueDepth module is too bulky). Dual 48MP rear cameras (main + ultrawide), no telephoto. The battery is the largest ever in an iPhone at 5,000-5,500 mAh. Samsung Display is the exclusive panel supplier under a three-year contract (2026-2029) with monthly capacity of 30,000 sheets.
Pricing starts at $2,000 (around NT$63,000), with analysts estimating an average selling price of $2,400. A launch is expected in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple is reportedly exploring a LiquidMetal hinge to achieve a 'nearly crease-free' experience, aiming to differentiate from Samsung.
MacBook Ultra: First Touchscreen Mac, Built-in Cellular
The MacBook Ultra sits above the MacBook Pro as a new flagship tier. Per Gurman and 9to5Mac, highlights include an OLED touchscreen (the first Mac with touch support), a Dynamic Island instead of the notch, built-in cellular with Apple's C2 modem (first Mac to accept a SIM card), M6 Pro/M6 Max chips (2nm), and a thinner chassis (exact numbers undisclosed). Originally slated for late 2026, it has been pushed to the first half of 2027 due to a global RAM chip shortage. Note: this is not a foldable design; Apple's full-screen foldable MacBook has been delayed to 2029.
Competition: 25% Pricier but 22% Market Share Expected in Year One
The existing Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers an 8-inch inner display, Snapdragon 8 Elite, 200MP main camera, and a $1,599 price tag. Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold also has an 8-inch inner screen at $1,799. Apple's $2,000 starting price is 25% higher than Samsung's. Yet IDC forecasts Apple will capture 22% of shipment share and 34% of revenue share in its first year, driven by strong iPhone user stickiness.
