Apple on Sept. 10 introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, with a starting price of RMB 15,999 in China and $1,999 in the U.S. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display when unfolded and a 5.4-inch outer screen when folded, with both panels supporting ProMotion, always-on display, and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness. Displays and hardware design

When unfolded, the iPhone Duo uses a 7.6-inch inner display, which Apple said is the largest screen ever on an iPhone. When folded, it switches to a 5.4-inch outer display with a screen area equal to 90% of the iPhone 18 Pro. Both displays support ProMotion, always-on display, and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness.

The phone uses a Grade 5 titanium body and a precision hinge built from more than 100 components. It also supports IP68 dust and water resistance, while Touch ID is integrated into the side button.

Chip, camera, and battery

The iPhone Duo is powered by a 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip and a custom vapor chamber. Apple said sustained performance is up by as much as 35% compared with the iPhone 17 Pro. The device also supports running two apps at the same time in split-screen mode.

For cameras, the phone includes a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Its foldable design also supports selfies with the rear camera and real-time preview on the outer display.

Apple said the device uses a dual-battery architecture and can support up to 44 hours of video playback when using the outer screen.

Colors, storage, and launch schedule

The iPhone Duo comes in Star White and Night Sky, with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The starting price in the U.S. is $1,999.

Pre-orders begin on Oct. 16, and the phone will go on sale on Oct. 23. China and more than 70 other countries and regions are included in the first launch batch.

Apple also announced China pricing for the new iPhone lineup: the iPhone 18 Pro starts at RMB 9,999, the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at RMB 10,999, and the iPhone Duo starts at RMB 15,999.
