Apple is set to deliver the most radical Siri update in years with iOS 27, expected to be announced at WWDC 2026 on June 8 and roll out in the fall. According to Bloomberg and leaked UI images circulating on X, Siri will evolve from a simple voice assistant into a full-fledged conversational AI, powered by the underlying Apple Intelligence engine.
Siri Becomes a Standalone App, Dynamic Island Gets a New Glow
The leaked interface shows a dedicated Siri Chatbot app, styled after modern LLMs like ChatGPT and Claude. Users can maintain persistent chat threads, search past conversations, and upload images or documents for analysis. The app features a clean search bar and tabs for queries, tasks, and history. Meanwhile, the Dynamic Island will display a distinctive glowing halo when Siri is active, enabling smoother multitasking and context-aware follow-up questions.
Camera Gets a Dedicated Siri Mode, Third-Party AI Models Onboard
iOS 27 also beefs up visual intelligence. A new Siri Mode appears in the camera interface (alongside photo and video modes), with the shutter button swapped for the Apple Intelligence logo. In this mode, Siri can identify objects in real time, answer complex visual questions, and perform deep image analysis. Accessibility improvements include an Image Explorer tool for VoiceOver, providing detailed descriptions of on-screen content. These features build on iOS 18's Apple Intelligence foundation, leveraging a more robust on-device and cloud hybrid architecture. However, due to high computational demands, most advanced capabilities will likely be exclusive to iPhones with the latest chips.
