Aptos Foundation and Aptos Labs said they have committed more than $50 million to expand the Aptos ecosystem, with funding aimed at trading infrastructure, protocol development, research, AI-related products, and strategic partnerships linked to automated blockchain activity. The plan was disclosed in an official post on X and centers on institutional-grade markets and machine-executed onchain finance.
Capital targets automated markets and AI-driven blockchain systems
In the announcement, Aptos said it views institutional-grade markets and machine-driven systems as the next major phase of blockchain adoption. The team said blockchain networks need to prepare for an environment in which AI agents execute a growing share of transactions without direct human involvement. Aptos also described markets as gradually moving onchain, with machines becoming active participants in decentralized financial systems.
Part of the funding will be used to strengthen Decibel, an onchain perpetual futures exchange incubated by Aptos Labs. Decibel launched on the Aptos mainnet in February and has already recorded more than $1 billion in cumulative trading volume, according to the update. Aptos presented that growth as evidence of rising demand for automated onchain financial activity.
Decibel and Shelby highlighted in the expansion plan
Aptos also pointed to Shelby, a storage protocol built to support AI agents operating onchain. The company said trading was the first large-scale workload handled by blockchain-based AI systems, but it expects data exchange to become another major category. The team said datasets tied to AI training could eventually move through decentralized marketplaces where autonomous agents buy, sell, and exchange information directly onchain. Shelby was framed as infrastructure for that use case.
The broader investment package also includes a strategic fund focused on trading firms and AI-oriented partners. Aptos did not provide extra details on the fund’s structure or how the capital will be allocated across different segments.
Stablecoin growth adds to the ecosystem push
Stablecoin adoption on Aptos was another part of the announcement. Citing DefiLlama data, Aptos said stablecoin market capitalization on the network has grown nearly tenfold since late 2024. The investment comes as blockchain networks compete for a larger role in tokenized finance and machine-driven digital markets, with Aptos increasing its focus on the infrastructure needed for automated trading systems, institutional blockchain activity, and AI-powered applications.
