DAO governance platform Aragon has introduced Confidential Voting, a governance plugin for Aragon OSx built on Zama Protocol. The plugin keeps individual ballots encrypted during the counting process while preserving the standard Aragon voting flow. Projects can use Zama’s programmable confidentiality to define what information may be decrypted, who can decrypt it, and under what conditions. Voters still choose yes, no, or abstain in the Aragon interface, then encrypt and submit that choice on the client side through the Zama Relayer SDK. The plugin uses fully homomorphic encryption to validate, weight, and tally encrypted votes, and only decrypts the final totals for yes, no, and abstain after voting ends through threshold decryption. It does not grant decryption rights over individual ballots. To keep voting confidential before the deadline, the system does not show live tallies and does not support early execution. Voters are allowed to replace their encrypted vote before the voting period closes. Aragon said the plugin uses a modular architecture, allowing it to run alongside other governance primitives, with the DAO executing actions once a proposal passes.

Only final totals are decrypted after voting ends
Once the vote is over, the plugin applies threshold decryption only to the final totals for yes, no, and abstain. To preserve confidentiality during the voting period, the system does not provide live vote counts and does not support early execution.
Aragon also said voters can replace their encrypted ballot before the deadline. The plugin uses a modular architecture and can operate alongside other governance primitives. After a proposal passes, the DAO executes the related action.
