Argentina's stablecoin premium has dropped from over 100% to around 4% after the government lifted capital controls. In April 2025, the Milei administration removed the $200 monthly limit on foreign currency purchases and a 30% withholding tax on foreign transactions, while introducing a managed floating exchange rate. Currently, 94% of all peso-denominated crypto transactions involve stablecoins, the highest ratio among major currencies. Since the reform, residents have net purchased about $22.7 billion through formal channels, indicating stablecoins have evolved into practical infrastructure.

CryptoBriefing says Argentina's stablecoin premium has collapsed, dropping from more than 100% to about 4% after capital controls were scrapped. In April 2025, the Milei government ended the $200 monthly cap on foreign exchange purchases and removed a 30% withholding tax on foreign currency transactions, while also putting in place a managed floating exchange rate system. That step slashed the spread between official and parallel market rates.

Right now, 94% of all peso-denominated crypto transactions in the country are tied to stablecoins, the biggest share among major global currencies. Since those controls were lifted, Argentine residents have been net buyers of roughly $22.7 billion through formal channels, a sign that stablecoins have shifted from speculative instruments into practical infrastructure.
