Ark Invest has published a bold new forecast, projecting the entire cryptocurrency market could swell to $28 trillion by 2030 — a dramatic jump from the $11 trillion estimate it released just this January. The firm pins the optimism on accelerating institutional adoption of Bitcoin as a reserve asset and the maturation of on-chain financial infrastructure.

Bitcoin: 63% CAGR, $1.62T Market Cap

Bitcoin is expected to retain its crown as the largest crypto by market cap, with a compound annual growth rate of roughly 63% over the next five years. At the time of the report, Bitcoin was trading at $81,313, up 6.7% week-over-week but still nearly 36% below its all-time high of $126,198 reached in October 2025. Data from CryptoAppsy puts Bitcoin’s current market capitalization at $1.62 trillion.

Smart Contract Platforms: $6T Valuation, $192B Annual Revenue

The report predicts smart contract platforms will command a larger slice of the crypto pie, potentially exceeding a combined valuation of $6 trillion by 2030. These networks are expected to generate roughly $192 billion in annual industry revenue, with just two or three blockchains likely to dominate and capture the lion's share. Decentralized finance and on-chain applications are cited as key drivers of innovation.

Institutional Holdings: Strategy Gobbles 3.9% of Supply, Bitmine Holds 5.18M ETH

Institutional buying is backing up the thesis. Michael Saylor's Strategy has added 63,410 BTC so far this year, worth roughly $5.1 billion — equivalent to 3.9% of all Bitcoin in circulation. CoinMarketCap data shows public companies and institutions now hold a combined 1.27 million BTC, representing over 6% of the circulating supply.

Interest extends to Ethereum as well. Bitmine Immersion Technologies, backed by Ark Invest, disclosed holdings of 5.18 million ETH, with total crypto and cash reserves reaching $13.1 billion. Chairman Tom Lee declared the arrival of a "crypto spring," stating: "Whether the CLARITY Act is approved or rejected, it signals a new era for the sector. Ethereum continues to benefit both from the integration of financial products onto the blockchain and the rising demand from artificial intelligence for decentralized networks."

The report notes that hitting the $28 trillion target will require sustained institutional interest, regulatory clarity in major markets, and ongoing growth in DeFi protocols. A key question now is whether large firms will keep buying Bitcoin at current levels, given the price remains well below its October 2025 peak.
