ARK Invest Sharply Raises 2030 Bitcoin Price Target
ARK Invest has released its latest long-term outlook for Bitcoin, significantly increasing its bull case price target for 2030 to approximately $2.4 million, up from $1.5 million. This corresponds to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 72% between December 31, 2024 and December 31, 2030. The base case target stands at $1.2 million (CAGR ~53%), while the bear case is $500,000 (CAGR ~32%). The updated forecasts are based on a comprehensive modeling framework that incorporates Bitcoin's total addressable market (TAM) potential, adoption trends, and assumptions about supply dynamics.
Overview of the Three Price Scenarios
The report presents three distinct scenarios for Bitcoin's price trajectory by 2030. In the bull case, Bitcoin fully realizes its potential as a global store of value and a hedge against monetary debasement, attracting massive institutional and sovereign demand. The base case assumes steady, widely-anticipated adoption without extreme catalysts. The bear case envisions a slower adoption rate, yet still delivers a positive CAGR, underscoring Bitcoin's resilience. Across all three scenarios, the common thread is Bitcoin's increasing integration into global portfolios as a non-correlated asset.
Key Drivers Behind the Bull Case
ARK's report identifies institutional investment as the largest contributor to the bull case valuation. The model assumes a penetration rate of 6.5% into the $200 trillion global market portfolio ex-gold by 2030 — nearly double the current allocation to gold. Digital gold is the second pillar: assuming Bitcoin captures 60% of gold's $18 trillion market capitalization, this segment alone accounts for more than one-third of the $2.4 million target. ARK describes Bitcoin as a 'nimbler, more transparent store-of-value,' reinforcing its substitution potential for gold.
Emerging market demand is another critical factor. ARK believes this use case has the 'greatest potential for capital accrual,' as Bitcoin can protect wealth from inflation and currency devaluation in developing economies. The model assumes a 6% TAM penetration rate into emerging market monetary bases, contributing 13.5% of the bull case valuation. Additional contributions come from nation-state treasuries (e.g., El Salvador's adoption), corporate cash reserves (such as MicroStrategy), and a rapidly growing on-chain financial services ecosystem. Even with conservative estimates, on-chain services (encompassing Layer 2 networks, WBTC, and DeFi) exhibit a 60% CAGR, driven by innovations that expand Bitcoin's utility beyond simple transfers.
Active Supply Adjustment and Lost Coins
In a supplemental analysis, ARK applied the same assumptions to Bitcoin's 'active' supply — that is, supply adjusted for coins held long-term or permanently lost. Using this liveliness-adjusted supply basis, the bull case price target jumps from the original $1.5 million to the updated $2.4 million. ARK concludes, 'Bitcoin’s scarcity and lost supply are not reflected in most valuation models today,' suggesting that even this bold forecast may understate the true potential. The recognition that a significant portion of mined bitcoins are inaccessible or held by long-term hodlers further intensifies the supply-side scarcity narrative, creating a powerful tailwind for prices over the coming years.
