Aster Chain launched its mainnet today, a custom-built Layer 1 blockchain that integrates privacy directly into the execution layer – not as an optional feature but as the default. The project, backed by YZi Labs, targets the so-called “transparency trap” of DeFi: full on-chain visibility of trading activity that enables predatory attacks like position hunting. In March 2025, a trader opened a $375 million BTC 40x short on a fully transparent platform; other traders openly coordinated on Twitter to fund a hunt that triggered a forced liquidation. Such attacks have cost traders millions.
ZK-verifiable encrypted architecture
Aster uses zero-knowledge proofs to encrypt every order before it reaches the chain. With Account Privacy enabled, orders are routed through unique stealth addresses, making it impossible to link wallets to trading activity or reconstruct trades. While asset transfers remain traceable for compliance, trading intent is completely shielded. Users who want transparency can opt to make their activity public, or generate a “Viewer Pass” to selectively share order details with chosen parties.
This architecture removes the attack surface entirely: competitors cannot see position sizes, liquidation prices, or margin levels of others on the network.
CEX-level performance on a permissionless chain
Aster Chain claims a peak throughput of 100,000+ TPS with a median block time of 50 milliseconds, all without gas fees. The network features a native bridge to BNB Chain and proprietary oracles for high-fidelity price feeds. It supports perpetual contracts across crypto, stocks, and commodities, as well as spot trading – all under default privacy.
“Transparency between a protocol and its users is a fundamental feature, but transparency between a trader and their competitors is a critical vulnerability,” said Leonard, CEO of Aster. “Aster Chain is the only architecture that treats privacy as a fundamental requirement for a fair market, neutralizing predatory attacks at the base layer.”
Staking program and builder tools
Within a week of mainnet launch, Aster will initiate a staking program to reward early supporters and liquidity providers. Alongside its flagship trading UI, the project offers Aster Code for developers to build custom vaults and collaborative DeFi products on the network.
