Aster has released the final results of its first “Human vs AI” live trading competition, a two-week event held during highly volatile market conditions. The headline split was sharp. Human trader ProMint finished first on the individual leaderboard with positive net profit, yet the human team as a whole ended with an overall ROI of -32.22%. AI agents, while not taking the top individual spot, delivered steadier aggregate performance, limiting combined losses to about $13,000 and finishing with an overall ROI of -4.48%.

Humans led the top rank, but results were far more uneven

Competition data showed a wide spread in human performance. Some traders recorded gains above $19,000, while losses in other cases came close to $18,000. That gap translated into much higher return volatility across the human group. The outcome pointed to a familiar pattern in active markets: discretionary traders can capture outsized moves, but the same flexibility can also widen downside when conditions turn quickly.

AI strategies looked different at the group level. According to Aster, all 30 AI agents completed the event without a single liquidation, producing a 100% survival rate. Human participants were far more exposed to forced exits, with 43% liquidated during the contest. In a short event with large market swings, that contrast put execution discipline and risk control at the center of the comparison.

Aster says the contest was built to compare roles, not declare a replacement

Aster said the showdown was designed to observe how different types of traders behave under real market conditions on the same decentralized infrastructure, rather than through backtesting or simulated environments. Its reading of the results is that AI is becoming a core tool for execution and risk management, while human traders still contribute judgment, context, and narrative interpretation when price action becomes harder to model cleanly.

The company added that AI-driven strategies show structural strengths in stable, risk-controlled settings, where systematic execution can reduce large drawdowns. At the same time, it said markets shaped by emotion, rapid shifts, and nonlinear price action can still reward discretionary traders with strong judgment. Aster framed the long-term edge as collaboration between humans and AI rather than a simple head-to-head replacement story.

Next live trading event is scheduled for January 22 on Aster Chain Testnet

Aster confirmed that its next live trading showdown will begin on January 22 and will take place on the Aster Chain Testnet. The upcoming event will be opened to a broader participant base, including professional traders from around the world, allowing live competitive trading inside Aster’s testnet environment. Details on mechanics, rewards, and participation criteria are available through Aster’s official competition announcement on X.
