The Reserve Bank of Australia has launched a consultation on the role of its Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System in settlement services for tokenized assets. The consultation, open until October 30, seeks feedback on supporting tokenized markets and private money while maintaining security and stability. Separately, a joint report with the Treasury states there is no sufficient case for a retail CBDC.
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has opened a public consultation to test where its Reserve Bank Information and Transfer System (RITS) might fit in settlement services for the tokenized ecosystem, according to Odaily.
It runs until October 30. The goal is to collect views on how those services might help build Australia's tokenized asset markets and private money, while still keeping financial security, operational efficiency, and stability intact.
In a separate move, the RBA and the Treasury put out a joint report saying Australia's retail payment system is already working well for households and businesses, and that there is no sufficient public interest case for issuing a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) at this stage.
