Avalanche Treasury Corp has sounded the alarm to regulators, warning of acute liquidity risks after its massive AVAX treasury collapsed from nearly $1 billion to less than $30 million. The company cited adverse market conditions as the primary driver behind the dramatic value erosion of its digital asset holdings.

AVAX Reserve Plunges, Balance Sheet Bleeds

During last year's expansion phase, the treasury boasted a sizeable AVAX reserve. But a 47% year-to-date drop and a nearly two-thirds decline over the past 12 months in AVAX prices have shattered its financial standing. In a single quarter, the company posted over $26 million in impairment losses on its AVAX assets. Originally acquired for roughly $265 million, those tokens are now worth just $123 million. The firm stated that prevailing market conditions cast "considerable doubt" on its ability to remain a going concern.

Stock Crashed Over 90% in a Month

After going public via a SPAC merger, Avalanche Treasury Corp initially drew positive sentiment. But once investors fully grasped the scale of its AVAX exposure and financial structure, sentiment flipped. Following additional disclosures, the share price collapsed from above $10 to below $2 within days. It later sank under $0.73, erasing more than 90% of market value in just one month — a stark reflection of shaken confidence in AVAX-centric treasury models.

Collateral Arrangements Amplify Risk

Roughly 7.8 million out of 13.8 million AVAX held are pledged as collateral in credit agreements. This arrangement heightens vulnerability to further price declines, potentially triggering margin calls or forced liquidations and deepening financial strain.

Peers Face Similar Headwinds

Other firms with sizable AVAX holdings are also under pressure. AgriFORCE Growing Systems, now rebranded as AVAX One, saw its market cap shrink to about $43 million after announcing a major capital raise to boost AVAX exposure. Its shares are down 68% in 2024 and over 90% year-on-year. Across the sector, large AVAX treasuries have turned from strategic assets into liabilities as token prices fall and investor trust evaporates.
