Meme coins held onto traders’ attention even as the broader crypto market turned choppy after a sharp rally on Thursday and Friday. A fast Coinbase listing for Basecat, a Base ecosystem token with a market capitalization of roughly $9 million at the time of listing, set off a fresh round of cat-themed speculation across chains. That momentum quickly spread to BSC names such as Bicat and BNBCAT, to Solana’s CATE, and to Robinhood chain’s CashCat. According to Odaily, Basecat briefly climbed above $41 million in market capitalization before easing to around $28.8 million, with nearly 20,000 holder addresses at the time of writing. Bicat also saw a sharp burst, moving from below $1 million to roughly $7.4 million before falling back. BNBCAT posted a smaller move, while CashCat traded near $110 million after dropping from a peak above $234 million. CATE was one of the biggest movers in Solana’s meme coin segment, rising from above $35 million on Aug. 21 to more than $91 million at its peak before retreating to about $44 million. Odaily said a disputed post about the real name of a cat adopted by Kabosu Mama appeared to weigh on sentiment. The broader takeaway from the report is that the combination of trading venue, public chain and meme token is increasingly being treated as a standard operating model across major crypto platforms.

Meme coins stayed active over the weekend even as the broader crypto market moved into a short-term pullback after sharp gains on Thursday and Friday. Basecat on Base, Bicat and BNBCAT on BSC, CashCat on the Robinhood chain, and CATE on Solana emerged as some of the most watched names in that rotation.

Odaily used those tokens to frame a bigger trend now visible across the sector: a tighter link between exchange listings, native chain ecosystems and meme coin speculation.

Basecat’s Coinbase listing became the spark

On the morning of the previous day, Coinbase said it would list five tokens, including Basecat. The token’s market capitalization was around $9 million at the time, and its quick path to a Coinbase listing drew unusual attention because it had been issued only a week earlier.

Basecat is described as a cat wearing a blue safety helmet. It was launched through o1 Launchpad as a B20 meme coin and has been treated by the market as a symbol of Base’s builder culture.

After the listing news, Basecat’s market capitalization climbed rapidly and at one point moved above $41 million. At the time of writing, it stood at roughly $28.8 million, with nearly 20,000 holder addresses. Odaily noted that this was the first time Coinbase had moved this quickly to list a meme coin that had existed for only one week, prompting some market participants to say Coinbase had finally "figured it out."

The move in Basecat quickly spread into a broader cat-token trade across other ecosystems, with BSC seeing some of the strongest follow-through.

Bicat and BNBCAT took over on BSC

As Basecat gained traction, BSC did not stay quiet for long.

Traders resurfaced a Binance post from December last year that asked for name suggestions for a yellow-and-black kitten. In the comments, Flap, a BSC token launch platform, had suggested the name "Bicat." A meme coin using that same name then surged. Its market capitalization had been below $1 million at the prior day’s low and later reached about $7.4 million. By the time Odaily published, it had slipped back to around $1.2 million, with about 6,000 holder addresses.

Odaily also said the token’s developer had launched as many as 168 tokens, describing the figure as enough to make the developer a true on-chain serial entrepreneur.

The popularity of Bicat also triggered the kind of spillover often seen on BSC. BNBCAT appeared on the morning of the publication date. The token leaned into a more direct "Binance Cat" concept than Bicat’s naming angle, and the team pointed to a 2023 post from Binance founder CZ related to "BinanceCat."

Odaily said the token was clearly leaning on a celebrity association, and its market performance was relatively modest. Its peak market capitalization stayed below $2 million. Citing GMGN data, the report said BNBCAT was valued at around $800,000 at the time of writing, with roughly 4,000 holder addresses.

CashCat remained the Robinhood chain leader, despite a steep retracement

Among recent meme coin names, CashCat on the Robinhood chain remained one of the standout examples. It had previously been listed on Robinhood as the first native meme coin on the Robinhood chain and was seen as part of Robinhood’s dual strategy around RWA and meme tokens.

Still, the token did not avoid the pullback that often follows a major listing. Its market capitalization fell from a peak above $234 million to around $110 million. Even after that decline, Odaily continued to describe it as the leading meme token on the Robinhood chain and said it could regain market attention if activity in that ecosystem heats up again.

CATE rallied hard on Solana, then reversed after a disputed post

Solana’s representative in this weekend’s cat-themed meme coin race was CATE, a token promoted around the idea that cats have nine lives and tied in market narrative to a pet cat associated with the owner of Kabosu, the dog behind DOGE. Odaily noted that Kabosu Mama had previously clarified that the token had no connection to her.

After going through several earlier cycles of rally, crash and rebound, CATE returned to the spotlight during the latest cat-token wave. On Aug. 21, its market capitalization rebounded above $35 million. It then kept climbing, and by the morning of the publication date it had passed $80 million and later set a high above $91 million.

The move did not hold. A user named Eno posted that a magazine indicated the real name of a newly adopted pet cat belonging to Kabosu Mama was actually Yomogi. Odaily said the claim could not be verified. Several community members in the comments called it an AI fabrication, and no meme coin using that same name had managed to break past a market capitalization of several million dollars, but the post still appeared to affect CATE.

Under that pressure, the token, whose main concept had been built around the naming of a pet cat linked in market lore to the owner of the DOGE model dog, sold off sharply. Its market capitalization at one point nearly halved. At the time of writing, it was around $44 million.

An exchange-chain-meme playbook is becoming standard

Looking across current projects and the latest token listing moves from Binance, Coinbase and Robinhood, Odaily’s conclusion was that the combination of trading platform, public blockchain and meme token is becoming a standard industry setup.

The report pointed to Binance’s earlier path with Binance Alpha, Meme Rush and Binance Wallet, Robinhood’s combination of its brokerage trading platform, the Robinhood chain and meme token listings, and Coinbase’s newer willingness to list lower-cap meme coins on its core venue. In Odaily’s reading, those moves suggest that chain-native token issuance, community-driven hype and exchange listing support are increasingly turning into an assembly-line model for the sector.

For Solana, Odaily argued that one weakness remains the lack of its own exchange venue to serve as a final destination for liquidity. That, the report said, limits the ecosystem’s ability to keep profits circulating internally even with launch platforms such as Pump.fun in place.

Odaily ended by saying that combinations such as Coinbase plus Base plus meme coins, Robinhood plus the Robinhood chain plus meme coins, and Binance plus BSC plus meme coins may continue to generate new market stories.
