Base, the Layer 2 network backed by Coinbase, has introduced Base MCP, a new integration that connects AI agents with Base accounts. After authorization, users can issue natural-language prompts inside interfaces such as Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, and Cursor, allowing AI to prepare onchain actions including portfolio checks, token transfers, swaps, and selected DeFi interactions.
Turning a chat window into a Web3 execution layer
The product is built to make conversational interfaces usable for blockchain activity. According to Base, AI agents can securely access the same account system used by Base App and assist with several tasks: viewing balances and transaction history across Base and other supported EVM chains, sending tokens, executing decentralized swaps, and calling dApps in the Base ecosystem through “skill plugins.” Base MCP also supports payments for web services enabled with x402.
First rollout includes seven integrated protocols
Base said the first version comes with seven protocol integrations. Uniswap and AerodromeFi are available for liquidity pool discovery, LP position management, and token swaps. MoonwellDeFi and Morpho support rate discovery, asset supply into selected vaults, and borrowing actions. Avantis covers perpetual trading and position management. Virtuals and Bankr are included for discovering new token launches or new AI agent issuance information, with token actions ranked through market data.
AI prepares the transaction, the user signs it
Security is the main guardrail in the design. Base said AI servers do not hold and cannot access wallet private keys. In the workflow, the AI agent only builds the transaction request and stores it temporarily on a server. It then generates a dedicated review link inside the chat interface. Opening that link launches the Base account window, where the user can inspect the transaction details and a simulated view of the expected asset changes.
The transaction is executed onchain only after the user reviews it and signs it personally. Base describes this model as “AI builds, humans review.” The company says that keeps final control with the account owner and is intended to reduce risks tied to AI malfunction, phishing, and domain hijacking.
Base is opening the system to developers
Base also said it plans to expand the skill plugin library and refine prompt flows as well as AI integrations. Developers can create their own plugins by writing Protocol API call instructions in Markdown format. The company’s announcement on May 27, 2026 presented the tool as a way to connect AI-driven interfaces with onchain applications inside the Base ecosystem.
