Beijing police detain two over rumor claiming multiple staff at a tech company were taken away

Beijing police said on the evening of Oct. 12 that they had handled several online rumor cases, including one involving a fabricated claim that multiple people at a technology company had been taken away. According to the police notice, two individuals surnamed Guo and Chang made up the story to attract traffic and posted it online. Police said the information spread widely, disrupted public order, and that both have now been placed under criminal compulsory measures. A reporter with the Star Market Daily learned from relevant sources that the case was tied to the earlier rumor incident involving Moonshot AI. On Sept. 12, Moonshot AI had denied online claims related to its founder and employees, saying the circulating information was entirely fabricated and constituted malicious rumor-mongering. The company also said at the time that it had reported the matter to public security authorities.
