The Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) and the United Nations Development Programme’s Alternative Finance Lab (UNDP AltFinLab) concluded their 2025 forum in Copenhagen, gathering more than 300 policymakers, technologists, and impact leaders from over 30 countries to examine how blockchain can contribute measurable progress to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The event ran on November 4–5. Its opening day, titled “Chains of Change,” was held as an invitation-only leadership session focused on governance, digital public infrastructure, and cross-sector partnerships. On the second day, organizers held the BGAwards alongside the SDG Blockchain Accelerator Showcase organized by UNDP AltFinLab, highlighting projects using blockchain to address practical issues in financial inclusion, sustainability, and digital trust.
Agenda centered on governance, access to capital, and sustainability use cases
The forum was structured around three themes: governance and digital identity, access to capital and financial equity, and practical applications such as carbon tracking, supply chain traceability, and ESG reporting. Speakers included Helen Liu, Co-CEO of Bybit and Founder of BGA; Francesco Rulli, Team Leader at UNDP AltFinLab; Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation; Arjun Sethi, CEO of Kraken; Kurt Nielsen, President of Partisia Blockchain; Sophia Li, Head of Ecosystem Development at the Arbitrum Foundation; Sunny Lu, CEO of VeChain; and a representative from the United Nations University’s UNU-EGOV.
Helen Liu said blockchain technology has moved beyond speculation, adding that builders, governments, and institutions are now using it to foster transparency, accountability, and tangible social impact. BGA also said the Copenhagen gathering showed a broader movement taking shape, with blockchain being used as shared infrastructure for trust and accountability.
BGAwards named winners across multiple tracks
The forum concluded with the BGAwards, recognizing projects that showed measurable contributions to the SDGs. In the Mini Grant category, Genius Tags, Plastiks, and ZenGate each received $2,000.
In the Ideation Stage category, Kelox took first place with $10,000, while Give Hope, Nuva, and Social Activation each received $3,000. In the Growth Stage category, Token Tails won first place with $30,000, Rumsan placed second with $20,000, and EsusFarm took third with $10,000.
In the joint award tracks, BGA × Hetu Protocol × Aura Sci named Genpulse first with $30,000, Genosight second with $20,000, and Ideosphere third with $10,000. In the BGA × Masverse category, Cokeeps, Smart Orchard System, and WeeKongSi each received $20,000. The Stewardship Awards went to Adam Flinter and Mickey Amami, while the Commendation Award was presented to Dr. Lisa Cameron.
BGA says it will keep expanding its ecosystem
According to the organizers, this year’s honorees reflect a continuing focus on blockchain solutions tied to sustainability, inclusion, and digital trust. Across the two-day program, participants stressed collaboration between public and private sectors as a requirement for aligning blockchain innovation with human development goals. BGA said it will continue expanding its ecosystem and supporting responsible blockchain initiatives.
