Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has completed an integration with Anchorage Digital, a digital asset bank and institutional platform, becoming the first exchange to connect to its Atlas off-exchange settlement service. The move expands Binance's triparty banking network, enabling qualified institutional and professional investors to manage collateral and assets in a custody-separated model while accessing Binance's liquidity.
Anchorage Digital's Atlas platform is designed to separate asset custody from trade execution. Instead of pre-funding exchange accounts—a practice that introduces operational and counterparty risks—institutions can now keep collateral in a dedicated custodian and trade directly on Binance. Binance first piloted the triparty model in 2023 and has since added more banking partners and settlement options to give clients greater control over their collateral.
How Custody Separation Works
Under this integration, eligible clients can maintain cash and crypto collateral with Anchorage Digital as the independent custodian while executing trades on Binance's order book. Nathan McCauley, co-founder and CEO of Anchorage Digital, said: "Institutions need a crypto market structure that mirrors traditional finance standards. Atlas off-exchange settlement splits custody from execution, letting them tap exchange liquidity without sacrificing safety." Catherine Chen, Binance's head of VIP and institutional business, added that the partnership brings a traditional-finance-style workflow to the largest crypto exchange, giving professional traders "a safer, more efficient way to participate."
Broad Collateral Types Including Tokenized RWAs
Binance's triparty solution supports cash, cash equivalents, crypto assets, and certain tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) as collateral. Among the accepted money market funds are BlackRock's BUIDL, Circle's USYC, and Franklin Templeton's iBENJI. This allows institutions to manage margin requirements more efficiently across trading, settlement, lending, and collateral management scenarios.
The integration marks another step toward closing the infrastructure gap between crypto and traditional capital markets. As institutional adoption accelerates, partnerships like Binance and Anchorage Digital's could accelerate the flow of mainstream capital into digital assets.
