Binance said eligible overseas Binance Pay users visiting Japan can now pay at PayPay merchants across the country through HIVEX®. The service went live on Sept. 30, 2026, extending access to about 48 million eligible Binance Pay users from more than 100 countries and regions. Those users can spend at millions of merchant locations in Japan that support PayPay, while merchants continue to receive settlement in Japanese yen. The company said the feature is aimed at inbound travelers and covers spending categories including dining, shopping, accommodation, and other travel-related purchases. Binance framed the launch as an expansion of Binance Pay in one of the world’s more advanced cashless payment markets, while also highlighting the connection between digital asset payments and local fiat payment infrastructure. Thomas Gregory, Vice President of Binance Pay and Fiat, said the integration reflects a shared effort with PayPay to offer smoother and easier cross-border payments for travelers to Japan. Binance also said the rollout continues its broader push to expand QR code payment network coverage across major travel corridors in Asia.

Service starts on Sept. 30

According to the announcement, the interoperable service powered by HIVEX® became available on Sept. 30, 2026. It gives about 48 million eligible Binance Pay users from more than 100 countries and regions access to millions of merchant locations in Japan that support PayPay. Merchants continue to receive payments in Japanese yen.

Binance said the feature was built for travelers visiting Japan. It covers dining, shopping, accommodation, and other travel-related spending. The company also described the launch as a step that extends Binance Pay’s presence in Japan, which it called one of the world’s more advanced cashless payment markets, while linking digital asset payments with payment experiences consumers already know through local fiat networks.

Thomas Gregory comments on the PayPay integration

Thomas Gregory, Vice President of Binance Pay and Fiat, said: "Japan is one of the world’s major travel destinations and is shaping the future of connected cashless payments. Our integration with PayPay reflects a shared vision to build a smoother, border-spanning, and easier-to-use payment method for travelers visiting Japan. This integration also reflects the growing convergence of traditional fiat payment systems and digital assets, giving travelers more payment choices while helping PayPay merchants across Japan serve international customers better."

Using local QR code payment rails

Binance said Binance Pay connects to existing QR code payment ecosystems so users can pay with digital assets while merchants keep receiving local currency. In Japan, PayPay brings that capability into one of the more advanced cashless markets.

The company added that the rollout continues Binance Pay’s expansion across QR code payment networks on major travel routes in Asia. Binance said those services broaden its reach in key regional travel markets and are meant to give travelers a smoother cross-border spending experience.
