Binance’s SAFU fund has added another large Bitcoin position. On-chain data shows the fund withdrew 1,315 BTC from a Binance hot wallet earlier today (4), valued at about $100.42 million at the time. The purchase was funded by stablecoin reserves already held inside SAFU, making it part of an ongoing reallocation rather than a new capital injection.
Latest transfer pushes reserves closer to Bitcoin
The move fits Binance’s stated plan to convert part of the fund’s stablecoin holdings into Bitcoin. SAFU, with a target size of $1 billion, is being adjusted in stages, not through a single transaction. This latest withdrawal brings the reserve pool closer to a Bitcoin-centered structure.
Insurance fund setup and maintenance threshold
Binance created the SAFU fund in 2018 as an emergency insurance pool designed to absorb losses in extreme situations and protect user assets. In a statement issued on January 30, the exchange said it would keep buying Bitcoin in batches and transfer the assets into SAFU, with the conversion scheduled to be completed within 30 days.
Binance also said it would review the fund’s assets on a regular basis. If a decline in Bitcoin’s price pulls the fund’s value below $800 million, the exchange will continue buying BTC to keep the fund at $1 billion. The latest 1,315 BTC transfer shows that process is still underway.
