Event Background and Data Overview
According to ChainCatcher, Binance recorded over $400 million in net outflows this week after the exchange withdrew its MiCA license application in Greece. Data from DefiLlama shows that this week's net outflow represents 0.3% of Binance's tracked assets ($133.3 billion). Specifically, on Wednesday (the day of the withdrawal announcement), net outflow was $1.96 billion, followed by $2.52 billion and $1.46 billion over the next two days.
Impact of the EU MiCA Transition Period
The EU MiCA transition period is now in its final stage. Starting July 1, platforms without MiCA authorization will be unable to continue providing services to EU users. Binance has already begun notifying some European users to transfer their funds to self-custody wallets or other exchanges. This regulatory action has prompted some users to withdraw funds, exacerbating the net outflow.
Exchange Response and Market Interpretation
Binance co-founder Yi He said that although the European market accounts for only about 1% of its spot trading volume, the company still values the market and will continue to pursue MiCA licensing. Market analysts believe that while the short-term outflow amount is significant, it has a limited impact given Binance's massive asset base. However, regulatory uncertainty remains a long-term challenge for crypto exchanges.
