Odaily Planet Daily reported that the BIP-110 minority chain has stalled after mining just two blocks, 961632 and 961633, following its fork at block height 961632. The chain inherited roughly 127.48 trillion in Bitcoin difficulty, yet attracted almost no SHA-256d hashrate, making continued block production unsustainable.
Before the fork, miner support sat at around 0% to 2.6%. That thin hashrate base left the minority chain unable to maintain block production on its own.
Supporters Discuss Replacing the PoW Algorithm
BIP-110 supporters are now discussing switching to a different proof-of-work algorithm to end their reliance on Bitcoin miners and SHA-256d hashing. Luke Dashjr has proposed using a deterministic random process to select the final algorithm from a shortlist of candidates.
Options under discussion include RandomX, KT256, BLAKE3 and Scrypt, along with the possibility of CPU- and GPU-based mining.
No PoW Change Approved Yet; Chain Still Not Producing Blocks
No PoW change has been enabled or approved. No algorithm has been selected, and no activation height has been announced. Bitcoin Knots has not committed to adjusting PoW.
Related experimental code has been ported to the recent Bitcoin Knots codebase, but the BIP-110 minority chain still has not resumed block production.
