BIT, formerly known as Matrixport, said it is working with AMINA to broaden access to Switzerland’s digital asset market after the two sides held a joint event during Hong Kong FinTech Week. The gathering, hosted by BIT and AMINA (Hong Kong) Limited at The Upper House in Hong Kong, brought together financial institutions, asset managers, family offices, and digital asset industry representatives to discuss how institutional participation in crypto is changing. The discussion centered on two questions: how financial institutions are reshaping the digital asset market, and how digital assets may alter institutional portfolios. BIT also highlighted a recent regulatory development in Switzerland, where the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, or FINMA, approved the Bitcoin fund ETF BBIT. According to BIT, BBIT is Switzerland’s first exchange-traded fund to invest directly in Bitcoin and currently Europe’s only spot Bitcoin ETF. BIT co-founder and chief commercial officer Cynthia Wu said the approval marked a milestone for the company and for institutional digital asset investing in Switzerland. She said the partnership with AMINA would combine BIT’s asset management capabilities with Swiss banking custody services to open more investment avenues for institutional clients.

BIT, formerly Matrixport, said it will work with AMINA to expand Switzerland’s digital asset market after the two sides co-hosted a high-end exchange event during Hong Kong FinTech Week.

The event, held at The Upper House in Hong Kong, was organized by BIT and AMINA (Hong Kong) Limited, a subsidiary of AMINA Bank AG regulated by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, or FINMA. It brought together representatives from financial institutions, asset management firms, family offices, and the digital asset sector to discuss market trends and new openings for institutional investors.

Two topics framed the discussion: how financial institutions are reshaping the digital asset market, and how digital assets may change institutional portfolios.

Institutional market discussion focused on regulation and custody infrastructure

BIT said digital assets are moving deeper into the traditional financial system as regulatory frameworks in major global financial centers become more mature, institutional-grade custody infrastructure improves, and demand from institutional investors for regulated digital asset investment products continues to grow.

Guests at the event also exchanged views on how institutional capital and Web3 innovation are converging in major financial centers including Hong Kong and Switzerland. According to BIT, as regulated fund structures and institutional custody infrastructure continue to develop, institutional participation in digital assets is shifting from early-stage exploration toward a phase that places more weight on compliance, risk management, and long-term value.

BIT points to FINMA approval of BBIT

One development in Switzerland’s digital asset regulatory market drew particular attention during the event. FINMA has approved the Bitcoin fund ETF with the ticker BBIT. BIT said BBIT is Switzerland’s first exchange-traded fund to invest directly in Bitcoin and is currently the only spot Bitcoin ETF in Europe.

Unlike traditional exchange-traded products, or ETPs, BBIT uses a Swiss collective investment scheme structure. Under that setup, fund assets are legally segregated from the fund management company. BIT said this gives investors asset protection under Switzerland’s existing fund regulatory framework while avoiding issuer credit risk associated with debt-based products.

Cynthia Wu on the partnership with AMINA

Cynthia Wu, BIT’s co-founder and chief commercial officer, said: 「FINMA’s approval of BBIT is an important milestone in BIT’s development and a major step forward for institutional digital asset investing in Switzerland. We believe that for institutional investors, where assets are held, what legal structure is used, and what regulatory framework applies are becoming increasingly important. BBIT brings together these key elements through a Swiss domestic investment fund structure with segregated custody, physical BTC subscription arrangements, and access through traditional financial market channels. This also reflects our long-term commitment to connecting traditional finance and digital asset markets. By working with AMINA and combining BIT’s asset management capabilities with the strengths of Swiss bank custody services, we aim to broaden investment options for institutional investors.」
