Bitcoin Depot, one of the largest Bitcoin ATM operators in the United States, has announced the deployment of more than 100 new Bitcoin ATMs across 24 states, doubling its US footprint in the past six months. The expansion brings the company’s global network to over 2,000 kiosks, with additional machines set to be installed in coming weeks.
Deployment Details and Regional Distribution
According to the Atlanta-based firm, approximately 115 new Bitcoin ATMs will be installed in the coming weeks. The distribution includes 14 machines in Alabama, 13 in Minnesota, 12 in Florida, and 12 in California. The remaining units will be spread across other states such as Georgia, Texas, Ohio, and more. Brandon Mintz, President and CEO of Bitcoin Depot, emphasized the role of cryptocurrency in financial inclusion.
Cryptocurrency offers a lot of opportunities for people that don’t have access to traditional financial services, like banks. Our kiosks allow them to essentially self-bank through the digital wallet on their phone by turning their cash into cryptocurrency, which can be used to transfer money, pay bills or invest. We are proud that our continued expansion will bring this option to more people across the world.
2021 Growth Goals and Industry Trends
Bitcoin Depot forecasts a 200% growth in 2021, although it did not disclose specific upcoming locations for new Bitcoin ATMs. The optimism is fueled by the rapid expansion of the global Bitcoin ATM industry. According to CoinATMRadar, as of September 2020, there were over 10,100 Bitcoin ATMs worldwide; by March 2021, that number had surged to more than 17,003 units across 68 countries.
Other industry players are also scaling up. In October 2020, Swiss hotels began installing Bitcoin ATMs on-site, while Bitcoin ATM operator Libertyx added a cash-out option to its 5,000 machines, tripling the number of Bitcoin ATMs allowing users to convert BTC to fiat. These developments highlight the growing mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
Convenience and Accessibility of Crypto ATMs
Bitcoin ATMs provide a gateway for individuals without traditional bank accounts to buy and sell cryptocurrencies using cash. Bitcoin Depot’s new machines support major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Ethereum, with plans to add more assets. As digital currencies gain traction among retail investors and unbanked populations, physical ATM infrastructure remains a critical bridge between fiat and crypto economies.
The company’s aggressive expansion underscores a broader trend: the global crypto ATM market is expected to continue its rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for easy-to-use, cash-to-crypto conversion services.
