After more than a week of steady inflows, U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds finally slipped into negative territory, ending a nine-day run of positive momentum. According to the latest daily flow data, bitcoin ETFs recorded a combined $4.5 million in net outflows. While the decline was relatively small, it marked a notable shift in tone after an extended stretch of institutional buying.

The move came alongside a much deeper retreat in ether funds. Spot ether ETFs posted $174.83 million in net outflows for the day, extending their losing streak to a second session. Taken together, the data suggests that investor enthusiasm may be cooling after a period of strong gains, with some market participants potentially taking profits rather than adding fresh exposure at elevated levels.

Bitcoin ETFs Turn Negative After Nine-Day Inflow Run

Bitcoin ETF flows had been one of the stronger signals of institutional demand in recent sessions, but that trend paused as redemptions spread across multiple products. Bitwise’s BITB led the outflows with $37.45 million, followed by Grayscale’s GBTC at $19.21 million. Fidelity’s FBTC lost $10.18 million, while Ark 21Shares’ ARKB saw $6.21 million in outflows. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Mini Trust also posted $5.68 million in redemptions.

Despite the broader weakness, BlackRock’s IBIT stood out with $74.22 million in net inflows, making it the key bright spot among bitcoin products. Even so, that gain was not enough to offset the collective selling pressure across the rest of the category. The divergence highlights how demand remains selective, even when aggregate flows turn negative.

Trading activity remained exceptionally strong. Bitcoin ETFs generated a record $9.78 billion in daily volume, showing that investor participation was still robust even as net creations slowed. At the same time, category net assets fell to $158.96 billion, indicating that heavy turnover did not translate into sustained net buying.

Ether ETFs Face Sharper Selling Pressure

The pullback was far more severe in ether-linked funds. Spot ether ETFs recorded $174.83 million in net outflows, a much steeper withdrawal than what was seen in bitcoin products. The selling was also broad-based, with several major issuers contributing to the decline.

BlackRock’s ETHA led the losses with $80.19 million in outflows, making it the single largest drag on the ether ETF complex for the day. Grayscale’s ETHE followed with $30.57 million in redemptions, while Fidelity’s FETH lost $30.07 million. Bitwise’s ETHW shed $21.58 million, and Grayscale’s Ether Mini Trust added another $12.41 million to the negative tally.

Even with that wave of outflows, trading volume across ether ETFs remained elevated at $4.77 billion. Total net assets for the group slipped to $27.51 billion, reflecting the combined effect of withdrawals and the day’s market repricing.

Record Volumes Meet Signs of Profit-Taking

The latest numbers present a mixed picture for crypto ETF sentiment. On one hand, both bitcoin and ether products continued to post heavy trading volumes, suggesting investor interest remains high and participation has not disappeared. On the other hand, the shift from sustained inflows to net redemptions points to a market that may be pausing after a strong advance.

That interpretation is consistent with a classic profit-taking dynamic. After weeks of bullish flow data and rising enthusiasm, some investors appear to be locking in gains rather than extending risk. Bitcoin funds only saw a modest net outflow, but ether funds experienced a much more pronounced retreat, implying that appetite for additional exposure may currently be weaker in the ether segment.

Momentum Remains Important, but Not Linear

ETF flow data has become one of the most closely watched indicators in digital asset markets because it offers a daily window into institutional positioning. However, the latest session serves as a reminder that even in strong markets, momentum rarely moves in a straight line. A temporary reversal in flows does not necessarily erase the broader trend, but it does suggest that investors are becoming more tactical.

For bitcoin, the fact that IBIT still attracted meaningful inflows while the broader category turned slightly negative may signal that investors are rotating within the product set rather than exiting the theme altogether. For ether, however, the larger and broader-based redemptions point to a more cautious stance in the near term.

With record trading volumes still in place, the market is clearly active. But the latest ETF data indicates that enthusiasm has become more measured, and that the next leg of momentum may require renewed conviction rather than simply relying on the strength of the recent rally.
