Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US recorded heavy redemptions on March 27. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the outflow with $41 million, followed by Fidelity's FBTC at $32 million, ARK 21Shares' ARKB at $30.5 million, and Grayscale's GBTC at $24 million. Combined, the four funds saw approximately $128 million exit — the largest single-day withdrawal in recent weeks.

BlackRock, Fidelity, ARK Lead Redemptions

Despite the day's outflow, March net deposits remain positive. Data from research firm Sosovalue shows that Bitcoin ETFs have attracted $1.36 billion in net inflows so far this month, on track for the first monthly accumulation since October 2025, when US Bitcoin funds took in $3.42 billion. Senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas noted that the funds are "just one strong trading day away" from turning year-to-date outflows positive, adding that the sector has shown "incredible fortitude" throughout Bitcoin's 46% price retracement from its October high.

Geopolitical Tensions Trigger Institutional De-risking

Bitcoin fell below the $70,000 mark on the same day, trading at $67,780 — a weekly decline of 4.7%. MEXC Research chief analyst Shawn Young attributed the spike in ETF redemptions to escalating geopolitical risks involving the US, Israel, and Iran. The US military buildup in the Middle East, including the deployment of thousands of troops, has prompted institutional investors to reduce Bitcoin exposure. However, Young underscored that net flows remained positive overall during the conflict period, signaling continued resilience in global demand.

Trump Extends Iran Sanctions Freeze, Markets Wary

In a related development, US President Donald Trump extended the freeze on Iranian energy infrastructure actions by an additional 10 days, moving the deadline to April 6. Trump described ongoing negotiations as "constructive." Kyle Rodda, senior financial analyst at Capital.com, said market sentiment is wary of further unexpected escalations, noting that recent US troop movements have raised risk perceptions across financial markets, leading to defensive positioning among traders and fund managers. Previous strikes on February 28 had already caught investors off guard during a period of delicate negotiations.

Overall, Bitcoin's short-term trajectory remains tightly linked to geopolitical developments, with ETF flows serving as a key proxy for institutional sentiment.
