Documentary Origins: From Payments to a Full-Cycle Saga
A new documentary titled 'This Time Is Different' is in production, directed by Parker Worthington and produced in association with Michael Markle. The project began in 2024 as a focused documentary about Bitcoin payments, with early footage shot around open-source payments infrastructure. However, Worthington's repeated trips to Puerto Rico to film with David Bailey's team — where early hushed discussions about taking a company public were just surfacing — expanded the scope dramatically. David Bailey is the founder of BTC Inc., chairman and CEO of Nakamoto Inc. (NASDAQ: NAKA), and a central figure in Bitcoin's four-year cycle.
Nakamoto Inc.'s IPO: Reverse Merger and $710M Raise
The documentary's central thread became the public launch of Nakamoto Inc., formed through a reverse merger with KindlyMD and backed by an approximately $710 million capital raise — at the time among the largest PIPE financings tied to a digital asset company. The film captures the full arc of taking a Bitcoin company public, including the quietude required by SEC obligations and the resilience to execute a multi-entity consolidation strategy during a bear market.
Four-Year Cycle: Highs, Lows, and Conviction
Speaking on the Bitcoin Magazine live desk at the Bitcoin 2026 Conference, Worthington said the documentary aims to capture the complete four-year cycle — the highs and lows of launching a public Bitcoin company, the SEC-mandated silence, and the grit needed to navigate a bear market. David Bailey commented, 'I'm glad you got it on camera so people can see the raw passion that goes into this business. A lot of people say that people in bitcoin got lucky... this documentary shows the conviction you need to be in bitcoin.' Worthington added that what may look chaotic from the outside reflects a much more deliberate story, pointing to Bitcoin Magazine, UTXO Management, BTC Inc., and Nakamoto's broader media and investment arms as evidence of an operating business with real revenue and reach.
Release Window and Format
A release window of winter 2027 has been discussed, though the project could extend into 2028 depending on the broader crypto market cycle. The film is expected to be feature-length with potential distribution via a streaming platform. Worthington and the team expressed interest in packaging it as a standalone piece before exploring any series format.
