Bitcoin rose to $79,000 on April 27 as the Bitcoin 2026 conference opened at The Venetian in Las Vegas, marking its highest level since early February. The move extended a four-week rally fueled by persistent spot ETF demand, improving macro sentiment, and increasing attention on clearer US crypto regulation.
A major driver behind the latest advance was continued institutional inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs. During the week of April 20 to April 24, spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $824 million in net inflows, the fourth straight week of positive flows. Over the past eight weeks since late February, cumulative net inflows have reached roughly $3.7 billion. Progress toward a ceasefire in the Middle East also helped ease risk-off sentiment across global markets, encouraging capital back into risk assets.
$80,000 Seen as a Key Technical Test
Analysts at K33 said the $80,000 level is the market’s next major technical hurdle, noting that it aligns with the realized cost basis of short-term holders. If Bitcoin can establish support above that level, short positions in the futures market could come under pressure and amplify upside momentum through a squeeze.
The three-day event runs through April 29 and has drawn more than 40,000 attendees. Organizers scheduled over 100 hours of programming across six stages, covering institutional keynotes, mining discussions, and ETF-focused panels. Speakers include SEC Chair Paul Atkins, Senator Cynthia Lummis, Michael Saylor, and Arthur Hayes, highlighting the mix of policy, capital markets, and industry leadership at this year’s gathering.
Metaplanet and Regulatory Signals Draw Attention
Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet also set an early tone for the conference. CEO Simon Gerovich is among the featured speakers, while the company continues expanding its Bitcoin holdings through zero-coupon bond issuance. Its latest disclosure shows holdings of more than 40,177 BTC.
Another closely watched development is the confirmed appearance of SEC Chair Paul Atkins, the first sitting US securities regulator to attend the annual event. His expected remarks on “Project Crypto” and the agency’s updated token classification approach could become a key reference point for markets assessing the next phase of US crypto oversight. With prices rising, ETF inflows staying strong, and regulatory expectations building, the opening day of Bitcoin 2026 has already set a firm tone for the week.
