Bitcoin is holding close to $70,000, even as signs of softer demand emerge from the US market. The Coinbase Premium index, a widely watched measure of American institutional appetite, has fallen to its most negative level in the past month. That shift began around March 19, pointing to Bitcoin trading at a relative discount on US venues versus offshore markets.

Coinbase Premium Turns Negative

The index tracks the price gap between Bitcoin on Coinbase, the Nasdaq-listed US exchange, and Binance, which has a broader international user base. A positive reading usually suggests US investors are stepping in ahead of global buyers. The latest move in the opposite direction suggests that demand from US-based institutional players has eased, with Bitcoin no longer commanding the same premium on American exchanges.

Spot Bitcoin ETF Inflows Continue, but Momentum Has Faded

Attention is also fixed on the 11 spot Bitcoin ETFs listed in the United States. Those funds closed the first quarter with net outflows, yet they have still brought in $1.53 billion since the start of the current month. The detail drawing the most scrutiny is timing: nearly all of that money arrived during the first two weeks, while inflows slowed sharply after that. For many market watchers, steady and sizeable ETF demand remains important if Bitcoin is to keep posting firm price action.

Selective Institutional Interest Meets a Resilient Market

Bitcoin’s ability to stay near current levels, despite global uncertainty and tighter macro conditions, has kept the focus on market resilience. Vikram Subburaj, CEO of US-based exchange Giottus, said institutional demand has not disappeared, but compared with earlier periods of aggressive accumulation, it now appears more selective and sporadic.

That leaves the market with mixed signals. Institutional participation looks less consistent, yet Bitcoin has avoided a major drop and continues to trade around the same range. Traders and analysts are watching ETF flow data and early indicators such as the Coinbase Premium index for a clearer read on where price direction may come from next.
