A Bitcoin OG whale has fully exited a 5,000 BTC position after holding it for 12 years, according to on-chain tracker Lookonchain. The address sold its last 1,000 BTC two hours before the July 21 report, with that final tranche valued at $65.56 million.
Lookonchain said the whale originally bought 5,000 BTC 12 years ago at $332 per coin, putting the total cost basis at about $1.66 million. The wallet began distributing and selling the holdings on Nov. 26, 2024, and eventually sold the entire 5,000 BTC stack at an average price of roughly $87,151.
That brought the total sale value to $435.75 million. Based on the figures cited in the report, the trade delivered a return of 262x. The transaction stands out as a rare full exit by an early Bitcoin holder with a long-dormant position.
