Galaxy Research said Bitcoin experienced a single-block reorganization on Sept. 11 at block height 966500 after two mining pools, Spiderpool and Antpool, found valid blocks referencing the same parent block at nearly the same time. The event led to a brief competition between the two branches. In the end, the Antpool block was incorporated into the chain with more cumulative work, while the Spiderpool block was discarded. According to Galaxy Research, this was the third single-block reorg on Bitcoin in the past four weeks. The previous two took place at block heights 962722 and 963853. The firm also said its node did not observe the Antpool block until it had already been confirmed and extended by another block. Galaxy Research noted that in a single-block reorg, the network ultimately continues building on the chain with greater cumulative work, and the competing block is removed from the chain. If a transaction was included in the replaced block, its confirmations disappear. The report also referenced larger historical reorgs on other networks, including an 18-block reorg on Monero and a 100-block reorg on Bitcoin SV in 2021, according to Bitcoin.com News.

Odaily reported that Galaxy Research recorded a Bitcoin reorganization event on Sept. 11 at block height 966500.

According to the report, mining pools Spiderpool and Antpool found two valid blocks pointing to the same parent block at the same time, triggering a short-lived competition between the two branches. The Antpool block ultimately joined the chain with more cumulative work, while the Spiderpool block was dropped.

Galaxy Research said this was Bitcoin’s third single-block reorg in the past four weeks. The previous two occurred at block heights 962722 and 963853. It also said its node only observed the Antpool block after that block had been confirmed and the chain had continued to extend on top of it.

In Galaxy Research’s description, when a single-block reorg happens, the network eventually keeps building on the chain with more cumulative work, and the other competing block is removed. If a transaction sits inside the replaced block, its confirmation count disappears.

The report added that Monero once saw an 18-block reorg, while Bitcoin SV experienced a 100-block reorg in 2021. The item cited Bitcoin.com News as the source.
