Bitcoin is struggling to hold above $80,000 in early May as a cautious recovery takes shape. Analyst Darkfost noted that a composite sentiment index tracking fear vs. greed has entered a mild greed zone (ranging from -100 to +100), reflecting improved investor confidence and stronger holding patterns. However, he flagged that a similar reading in January preceded a sharp sentiment reversal and another correction phase.
Sentiment Index: A Pivot Point Under Watch
Darkfost explained that the current index level marks a potential turning point. While optimism is rising, the historical pattern of false recoveries suggests the market may not sustain this upward drift without underlying demand confirmation. He stressed that investor behavior near this zone will determine whether the rally has legs or fades.
Technical Structure: Golden Cross Confirmed After 66K Bottom
Bitcoin plunged from above $100,000 in November to near $66,000 by early February amid heavy volume sell-offs. The asset consolidated around the 66K level before forming higher lows and higher highs starting in March. In April, the price reclaimed both the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, and the MA50 (~$77,800) crossed above the MA200 (~$74,400), forming a bullish golden cross.
Key Levels: Resistance and Support at Play
As of early May, Bitcoin trades near $80,800, above both moving averages. Immediate support lies at $74,000–$78,000; a break below could drag the price back toward $68,000. On the upside, $82,000–$85,000 acts as stiff resistance. A clean breakout above that zone may fuel further gains. Volume trends show renewed buying during upswings, but Darkfost warns that positioning near this inflection point makes the next few days critical.
