Bitget has released its latest Protection Fund report, saying the exchange’s user protection fund carried an average valuation of $382 million in August 2026 as Bitcoin strengthened in the second half of the month. The fund reached a monthly high of $441.5 million on Aug. 27 and a low of $345.3 million on Aug. 1, while remaining above Bitget’s originally pledged $300 million size throughout the month. According to the report, the reserve is backed by 5,500 BTC held by Bitget. The company said Bitcoin traded between $62,773 and $80,268 during August. After a relatively steady start to the month, BTC climbed in the second half, briefly moving above $80,000 before pulling back by month-end. Bitget said Bitcoin rose from $62,773 on Aug. 1 to $78,553 on Aug. 31, a gain of more than 25%, helping lift the BTC-heavy fund to about $432 million by the end of the month. Bitget also framed the fund as part of a broader risk protection setup alongside its Proof of Reserves system. CEO Gracy Chen said strong market conditions do not reduce the need for safeguards, adding that on-chain reserves and public disclosure remain central to user protection and trust.

The fund reached $441.5 million on Aug. 27, the highest level of the month, and stood at $345.3 million on Aug. 1, the monthly low. Throughout August, the fund remained above Bitget’s original $300 million commitment, with reserves backed by 5,500 BTC held by the company.

Based on the daily figures disclosed for the protection fund, Bitcoin traded between $62,773 and $80,268 during August. Bitget said BTC was relatively stable at the start of the month, then moved sharply higher in the second half, briefly breaking above $80,000 before easing back by month-end. The price rose from $62,773 on Aug. 1 to $78,553 on Aug. 31, up more than 25%. As Bitcoin climbed, the protection fund, which is primarily held in BTC, was valued at about $432 million at the end of the month.

Regular disclosure and asset protection

Bitget said it created the user protection fund in 2022 as part of its platform risk protection framework. The fund is intended to provide asset protection during extreme market events. Its valuation is updated and disclosed on a regular basis so users can track reserve levels as market prices change.

CEO Gracy Chen said, 「Strong market performance does not make safeguards any less important. As the Bitget ecosystem expands into more asset classes, user protection and transparency must rise in step. Maintaining sufficient on-chain reserves and publicly disclosing their value is an important part of building trust in the platform.」

Protection Fund and Proof of Reserves

Bitget said the Protection Fund operates alongside its Proof of Reserves, or PoR, system. According to the company, PoR shows that reserves in major assets exceed user holdings. The two mechanisms form part of Bitget’s security structure by combining verifiable reserves with an additional capital buffer meant to provide extra coverage in the event of unexpected incidents.

The company added that as it expands its Universal Exchange ecosystem to include crypto assets, tokenized stocks, commodities and other financial markets, transparency and verifiable safeguards remain part of its risk management structure. Bitget said those features become more important as users trade a wider range of asset classes on a single platform.
