Autopsy says former Hack VC partner Hsin-Ju Chuang died by suicide

An autopsy found that Hsin-Ju Chuang, a former partner at crypto venture firm Hack VC, died by suicide on Aug. 24. The California Highway Patrol said its investigation into the circumstances of the case is still ongoing.

Earlier, crypto industry figure Jordy wrote on X that the former Hack VC partner had been found dead. A screenshot of a report shared in that post said the 37-year-old Chuang lived in North Las Vegas and was found last month near a remote Interstate 15 exit in the Mojave Desert.

Industry developments

U.S. President Donald Trump said he rejected a proposal from Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In media remarks, Trump said the U.S. had full control of the strait and that large volumes of oil were moving through it. Iran wanted a deal and the immediate reopening of the waterway, but "I rejected their proposal," he said.

Andy, founder of The Rollup, said in a post that, according to sources, the SEC is preparing to adjust KYC requirements so users would only need to complete identity verification once when accessing on-chain tokenized securities.

A newly disclosed 2025 financial filing for U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth showed his family's cash, retirement investments, and Bitcoin holdings were worth at least about $3.1 million. The Bitcoin position was valued at about $16,000 to $65,000, and one of three cash accounts held more than $1 million.

During the first U.S. tax season under the 1099-DA reporting rules for digital assets, some crypto investors are dealing with missing transaction records and difficulty verifying cost basis. An August survey by Awaken Tax of 1,000 U.S. crypto investors found that 21% of respondents who had filed or planned to seek an extension were still waiting for required information from exchanges or crypto platforms. About 20% said their 1099-DA forms were incomplete or they were unsure whether the forms accurately reflected their trading activity.

The SEC's Division of Corporation Finance updated its crypto asset FAQ and gave more detail on how securities laws may apply to token buybacks, network upgrades, and marketing. The agency said that for crypto networks with actual functionality, announcing a token buyback plan does not by itself make the token an investment contract. For networks that do not yet have actual functionality, the analysis may differ. It also said the analysis could change if an issuer markets buybacks as a source of returns for holders.

Project updates

Aave V4 has launched Equities Hub on Base, allowing eligible non-U.S. users to post seven tokenized U.S. stocks issued by Coinbase as collateral to borrow USDC. The eligible names are Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.

Chainlink provides the on-chain pricing data for the tokenized stocks. The seven names start with a combined collateral cap of about $29 million, a USDC supply cap of $32 million, and a borrow cap of $21 million. Loan-to-value ratios range from 65% to 79% depending on the stock. For now, those stocks can only be used as collateral. Aave said more Coinbase tokenized equities and GHO could be added as borrowable assets after governance and risk review.

Hyperliquid founder Jeff Yan wrote on Discord: "Based on user feedback, in the next network upgrade, the cap on funding rates will be adjusted from 4% per hour to 0.5% per hour. Please note that this cap is rarely reached in practice."

DYORSWAP said in an official statement on the fake GIWA mainnet 9134 incident that the event was not caused by a DYOR contract vulnerability. It said the loss stemmed from a fraudulent network impersonating GIWA Chain 9134. The network, which included an OP Stack-like bridge and batcher, was deployed on Sept. 27, 2026 at 02:10:59 UTC+8.

About 8.5 hours before deployment, the address received about 0.045 ETH from an address related to ChangeHero, according to DYORSWAP. The team said 1,335 addresses bridged in about 767.65 ETH, of which roughly 766.25 ETH was ultimately moved out through the bridge.

DYORSWAP said it has already compensated affected users with more than 200 ETH from its own funds and is still tracing the bridge deployer, the source of funds, early testing wallets, and the later movement of the drained assets.

Market sources said users who click the link under Paid's official X account are shown a warning from X. The notice says Paid's official link has been flagged by X or its partners under the platform's URL policy as possible spam or unsafe mail.

Paid is described as an automatic fee-splitting tool for token creators. Project teams can route meme-coin creator fees into Paid, with 80% converted into U.S. dollars and paid to designated X users through X Money.

Deals and fundraising

CoinMarketCap has completed its acquisition of crypto derivatives data platform Coinglass. Financial terms were not disclosed. Founded in 2019, Coinglass covers 28 exchanges and more than 2,500 trading products, offering data on open interest, funding rates, liquidations, and options. It has more than 5 million monthly active users and over 10,000 API clients.

After the deal, CoinMarketCap will integrate Coinglass derivatives data into its platform and offer information on leveraged positioning, liquidation distribution, and funding rates to its 115 million monthly users. Coinglass will continue to operate as an independent business, with its website, app, free tools, API, and pricing unchanged.

AI cloud computing company Nscale said it raised $3.36 billion through convertible loan notes in a round led by Third Point. Of that amount, $2.36 billion was funded at closing. Nvidia committed an additional $1 billion, with that capital expected by mid-November. Nscale said it now has more than $103 billion in total contract value.

1789 Capital, the investment firm backed by Donald Trump Jr., is seeking to raise $3 billion for its second growth fund and has already secured about $2 billion from existing investors. The firm is said to manage more than $4 billion in assets. Its portfolio includes Anduril Industries Inc., Polymarket, and several Elon Musk-linked companies including X, xAI, and SpaceX.
