Bitgo has introduced a new Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server designed to make its institutional crypto infrastructure easier to use from AI-powered development environments. The release is aimed at helping developers work faster without manually digging through traditional documentation.
According to the company, the tool connects Bitgo’s Developer Portal to MCP-compatible AI clients, allowing developers to ask natural-language questions such as how to create a wallet or access staking endpoints. The system can then return answers sourced from official documentation, pull full content pages, generate code snippets, and explain API functions on demand.
Built for popular AI development platforms
Bitgo said the MCP Server integrates with ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio Code, and Windsurf, among other compatible clients. Setup requires adding a single endpoint, turning what used to be a multi-tab documentation search into a much faster workflow for developers.
At the same time, Bitgo drew a clear boundary around the first version of the product. The MCP Server currently provides documentation access and contextual support only. It does not execute transactions, manage custody, or perform on-chain operations through AI agents. That distinction matters as the crypto industry increasingly experiments with more autonomous agent-based systems.
A step toward AI-native crypto infrastructure
CEO Mike Belshe described the launch as an early step toward broader automation, saying AI is changing how developers build, navigate technical systems, and interact with infrastructure. In that sense, the company is positioning Bitgo to become more accessible to what it calls the emerging AI economy.
The MCP standard, originally introduced by Anthropic, has gained traction across both AI and crypto circles as a shared framework for connecting AI systems to external data sources. Bitgo’s implementation uses a public endpoint linked to its documentation system, which allows AI clients to retrieve up-to-date materials directly rather than relying on static training data that may become outdated.
Bitgo also noted that its Developer Portal already includes an embedded “Ask AI” feature, giving users another way to query documentation without configuring external tools. The MCP Server is available immediately to existing Bitgo developers at no additional cost, and installation instructions and examples have been published in the company’s developer docs.
More broadly, the launch comes as crypto platforms race to make their services AI-native. For Bitgo, whose business centers on institutional services including custody, wallets, staking, and settlement, the new server appears to be foundational infrastructure for faster development today and deeper automation in the future.
