Bitlight Labs, a pioneer in RGB protocol and Lightning Network infrastructure development and a board member of the LNP/BP Association, announced the public beta release of its flagship product, Bitlight Wallet, on April 27, 2024, at 14:00 UTC. The wallet is the first self-custodial Bitcoin wallet to support RGB assets. Currently in closed beta, it features Bitcoin transfers, RGB20 asset transfers, and testnet registry for RGB20 assets.
Strong Market Response: 200,000+ Addresses in 48 Hours
According to data from the Bitlight Labs official website, the number of registered addresses on Bitlight Wallet has reached 319,500 and continues to grow. Within the first 24 hours of launch, addresses hit 100,000, and surpassed 200,000 within 48 hours. The team claims no paid marketing tactics were used, indicating strong organic demand for the RGB protocol ecosystem.
What Is the RGB Protocol?
The RGB protocol is a native Bitcoin smart contract layer compatible with the Lightning Network. Unlike other scaling solutions, RGB does not introduce a second blockchain; it adds Turing completeness while preserving Bitcoin's core properties. Originating from Peter Todd's research on single-use seals and client-side validation, the concept was developed into an asset protocol by Giacomo Zucco and the community (2016–2019). Since 2019, Maxim Orlovsky has led its evolution into a full smart contract system. RGB is a scalable and confidential smart contract system for Bitcoin and Lightning, enabling trustless distributed computing without requiring tokens.
Airdrop Campaign Details
The Bitlight Wallet airdrop consists of two parts: friend referrals and limited-time tasks. Users link their wallet RGB address with their Twitter account to generate referral links. Each successful referral awards 1,000 points to both inviter and invitee. Tasks include following the Bitlight Wallet Twitter account, joining the Bitlight Labs Telegram group, and completing the first testnet transfer. Points will be redeemable for $BIT tokens at the Token Generation Event (TGE).
