Leading ASIC manufacturer Bitmain has introduced its latest bitcoin mining rig, the Antminer S19 XP Hyd., a liquid-cooled machine boasting a hashrate of 255 TH/s and an efficiency rating of just 20.8 J/T. This makes it the most powerful and energy-efficient miner the company has ever produced.

A Leap Forward in Performance

Compared to the Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd. (198 TH/s, 27.5 J/T) announced in January 2022, the new XP model delivers a 29% increase in hashrate and a 24% improvement in power efficiency. Mainstream miners like the Antminer S19 Pro typically offer around 110 TH/s, meaning the XP Hyd. more than doubles the computing power. Orders are being accepted now, with deliveries scheduled for January through March 2023. Each unit costs $19,890, with bulk discounts available.

Liquid Cooling and Power Requirements

The S19 XP Hyd. uses hydro-cooling technology and draws 5,304 watts from the wall. It is compatible with Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV) mining. Bitmain recommends deploying the units in its Antspace HK3 containers, each holding 210 miners and providing 1 MW of power. The container itself sells for $110,000, offering a turnkey solution for high-density mining facilities.

Market Context and Profitability

While the S19 XP Hyd. sets new performance records, current market leaders remain the Microbt Whatsminer M30S++ and Bitmain's own S19 Pro (110 TH/s). At an electricity cost of $0.12 per kWh, the S19 Pro+ Hyd. generates roughly $19.89 per day in BTC profits. The more efficient S19 XP Hyd. is expected to deliver even higher daily returns, though the exact figure depends on bitcoin's price and network difficulty. Bitmain continues to sell older models: the 140 TH/s S19 XP at $11,620 and the 104 TH/s S19j Pro at $9,984, ensuring a range of options for different budgets.

Industry Implications

Bitmain's latest release reaffirms its dominance in the ASIC mining space. As the next bitcoin halving approaches, miners are increasingly focused on efficiency. The S19 XP Hyd., despite its high upfront cost, offers a path to faster ROI for large-scale operations. However, the long delivery timeline (nearly a year) suggests that the company is positioning this flagship product for the next market cycle. Whether the broader mining industry can absorb such a high-performance machine at scale remains to be seen.
