US Tech Stock Sell-off Hits Asian Markets as AI Hype Meets Reality

As of June 23, US stock futures declined amid a sell-off in large-cap tech stocks, dragging down Asian AI-related equities. Japan and South Korea markets tumbled: KOSPI closed nearly 10% lower, and the Nikkei 225 fell 3.55%. The tech sub-sector, which had rallied for eight consecutive sessions, suffered a severe reversal. Market sentiment shifted from last year's euphoria treating every AI company as a "gold mine" to a verification phase demanding tangible results. Investors are now cautious about whether massive AI infrastructure spending will yield real returns. Morgan Stanley's Chief Investment Officer Mike Wilson noted that liquidity, not interest rate hikes, is the main risk for US equities, expecting volatile July with a potential pullback.
