Bitmine Immersion Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: BMNR) saw its stock rise 4.16% to close at $22.79 on Monday following the announcement of a significant Ethereum acquisition. The company purchased 101,745 ETH for approximately $238 million, bringing its total Ethereum holdings to over 5.18 million ETH — valued at more than $12 billion at current market prices.
Massive Buy Drives Stock Rally
This latest purchase marks Bitmine's third major ETH accumulation in 2026, with the average acquisition cost around $2,338 per ETH — well below the current market price. Chairman Thomas Lee stated: "We continue to strategically accumulate during the late stages of the downturn, confident in Ethereum's long-term resilience." Earlier in May, Bitmine bought ~68,000 ETH for $153 million and followed up with similar large-scale purchases. The aggressive accumulation has solidified Bitmine's position as one of the largest publicly-traded ETH holders and buoyed investor sentiment.
ETH Holdings and Staking Strategy
Beyond accumulation, Bitmine has staked over 4.36 million ETH, expected to generate $297 million in annual network rewards. This staking approach converts idle assets into income streams while maintaining exposure to Ethereum's growth. Lee noted: "Staking allows us to turn idle holdings into yield-generating tools while sharing in the network's growth." With current staking yields around 3-5%, Bitmine's scale makes it one of the largest validators on the Ethereum network.
Regulatory Optimism
Lee also highlighted the potential impact of the CLARITY Act (Crypto Legal Certainty Act), which prediction markets give a 60% chance of passage in 2026. Clearer regulations could unlock institutional capital for digital assets. "Regulatory transparency is the key catalyst for the next bull run, and we are positioning early to benefit," Lee said. Previous news from late May indicated the CLARITY Act could elevate Ethereum as the premier programmable asset, though gold-like valuation remains unlikely.
Market Context and Institutional Trend
The purchase comes after Ethereum's price correction in mid-May when it dipped below $2,100. Bitmine's timing reflects strong conviction among large players. As Bitcoin miners diversify into Ethereum, the trend could tighten supply and inspire other listed companies to follow suit. Analysts view Bitmine's aggressive strategy as a bullish signal for the broader crypto market.
