BitMine, the crypto mining giant turned institutional whale, has once again expanded its Ethereum portfolio. According to an official statement, the company added 101,901 ETH over the past week, raising its total Ethereum holdings to 5,078,386 ETH, approximately 4.21% of the entire circulating supply. As of April 26, 2026, BitMine's combined crypto assets and cash reserves amounted to $13.3 billion.

Holdings Breakdown

With this latest purchase, BitMine's ETH position is now valued at roughly $12 billion at current market prices, making up the vast majority of its asset base. Notably, the company has staked 3,701,589 ETH, worth approximately $8.8 billion, representing over 72% of its total ETH holdings. This aggressive staking strategy is uncommon among institutional players and underscores BitMine's long-term commitment to the Ethereum network.

Staking Strategy and Returns

By staking its Ethereum, BitMine earns annual validator rewards estimated between 3% and 5%. Based on its staked amount, the company could generate between $260 million and $440 million in additional revenue each year. This not only boosts profitability but also provides a steady stream of cash flow to strengthen its balance sheet. The firm's recent weekly purchases of around 100,000 ETH indicate a systematic accumulation strategy.

Market Impact and Industry Dynamics

BitMine's enormous ETH holdings have notable implications for the market. Its regular accumulation reduces the circulating supply, providing a long-term price floor for Ethereum. However, the concentration of over 4% of supply in a single entity raises concerns about centralization. Unlike traditional Bitcoin miners, BitMine operates as a hybrid “miner, staker, and long-term holder” within the Ethereum ecosystem, making its position movements a key market indicator. Data shows that BitMine's ETH holdings are more than five times that of the second-largest holder, cementing its dominance among institutional whales.

At the time of writing, Ethereum is trading around $2,150, down 0.45% in the last 24 hours. Analysts suggest that BitMine's persistent buying may partially offset selling pressure from price volatility. Nevertheless, investors should remain cautious as sudden changes in a single whale's position could trigger cascading effects, especially during low-liquidity periods.
