Future versions of Firefox will block these practices by default. This move follows similar actions by Opera (December 2017) and Brave (September 2017), both of which already offer protection against cryptojacking.
Oxford University Launches Blockchain Research Centre for Green Mining
University College Oxford (Univ) has established a new “Research Centre for Blockchain,” led by Fellow Professor Bill Roscoe, who brings over 30 years of expertise in concurrency, automated verification, applied cryptography, and payment protocols. The research team aims to vastly improve mining efficiency and trust models, develop new privacy and escrow models, and create fair exchange models to support secure transactions. They will also address long-term challenges such as the threat of quantum computers to blockchain technology. Professor Roscoe commented: “The new centre focuses on bringing blockchain to the mainstream. This vision will be achieved by using green mining technology and embracing regulation through appropriate KYC guidelines.”
