Bitunix has announced partnerships with digital asset security firm Fireblocks and blockchain risk monitoring platform Elliptic, adding institutional-grade custody infrastructure and compliance tools to its exchange. The move expands the platform’s security stack across asset storage, transaction monitoring, and regulatory controls, as Bitunix pushes to strengthen its position with both retail and institutional clients.

MPC custody replaces the single-key model

The central change in the Fireblocks integration is the adoption of MPC-based custody, replacing the traditional single private-key setup. Multi-Party Computation distributes critical material across several secure components, which reduces the risk tied to unauthorized access. According to the source material, Fireblocks also brings security infrastructure used by major financial institutions and tools designed for efficient and secure asset management.

Bitunix said the upgrade is meant to improve protection for user assets while making the platform better suited to institutional and high-net-worth clients. Fireblocks is already used by banks, asset managers, fintech companies, and leading crypto exchanges, which gives the partnership added weight from an infrastructure and security standpoint.

Insurance coverage reaches $42.5 million

As part of the Fireblocks collaboration, Bitunix now has total insurance coverage of $42.5 million. The package includes digital asset crime insurance along with added protections against operational risks. The company said the expanded coverage gives users another layer of protection against rare but severe incidents.

This is not Bitunix’s only protection arrangement. The exchange said it already works with Cobo Custody, undergoes frequent audits by Hacken and Salus, and also maintains a separate $5 million insurance policy with Nemean Services for unexpected events.

Elliptic KYT adds real-time blockchain monitoring

On the compliance side, Bitunix is integrating Elliptic KYT, a Know Your Transaction system that monitors blockchain activity in real time and flags high-risk transfers. The source says the platform can identify flows linked to darknet markets, stolen assets, fraud-related transactions, high-risk counterparties, and sanctioned entities.

With Elliptic in place, Bitunix said it is improving its standards for KYC, anti-money laundering, and counter-terrorism financing. Together, Fireblocks and Elliptic form a two-layer framework: one focused on custody and operational security, the other on on-chain risk detection and compliance controls.

Security expansion comes as exchange losses remain significant

The article cites reports showing that centralized exchanges recorded $182 million in losses in September 2025 alone, with a heavier impact in the third quarter than decentralized exchanges. Bitunix presents the new integrations as an important point in its broader security roadmap.

Steven Gu, Chief Security Officer at Bitunix, said the exchange worked with several security providers for this upgrade, and that the partnerships with Fireblocks and Elliptic reaffirm user protection as the company’s top priority. He said the goal is for users to be “100% safe” when using the exchange.

Bitunix describes itself as a global crypto derivatives exchange serving more than 3 million users across over 100 countries. The company also points to mandatory KYC, Proof of Reserves, and the Bitunix Care Fund as part of its trust and safety framework, alongside deep liquidity and leverage of up to 200x.
