Bitunix, a cryptocurrency derivatives exchange, said it has obtained ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, an international standard for information security management. The certification is designed to confirm that an organization has formal systems in place to manage and protect sensitive data, including user information and related assets.
According to the company, the process involved an external audit that examined how Bitunix identifies risks, controls access, and responds to possible security incidents. For an exchange handling large volumes of funds and user data, those checks speak to day-to-day operational controls, not just policy documents.
Certification centers on formal security management and oversight
Bitunix said the practical effect for users is stronger protection for personal information and funds, closer alignment with international data protection rules, and clearer visibility into how the platform operates. The company also linked the certification to internal improvements, saying it pushes ongoing work on processes, platform stability, and operating standards.
ISO 27001:2022 sets specific requirements for how companies organize security practices across internal procedures and technical safeguards. In the case of exchanges, where personal data and customer assets are handled at scale, such standards are increasingly treated as a core requirement.
Proof of reserves and 1:1 asset backing remain part of the security stack
Alongside the certification, Bitunix outlined several existing safeguards. The platform said its proof-of-reserves system shows more than 100% backing for BTC, ETH, and USDT, supported by real-time Merkle tree verification. It also said it uses a 1:1 asset backing model, meaning all user funds are fully matched.
Bitunix added that users can access open-source tools and a verification portal to independently check balances. That gives users a way to verify account data on their own rather than relying only on platform statements.
$30 million USDC care fund set aside for unexpected events
The exchange also said it has allocated a dedicated $30 million USDC care fund to cover unexpected situations. In Bitunix’s description, the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification sits alongside proof of reserves and the care fund as part of a broader effort to strengthen user protection.
“Achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification reflects our deep commitment to security and transparency,” said Steven Gu, Bitunix’s Chief Strategy Officer. “At Bitunix, we believe trust is earned through action. This certification, alongside our Proof of Reserve system, ensures our users can trade with confidence.”
Bitunix said it will continue updating its systems and security practices as the platform grows and threats change. The company describes itself as a global crypto derivatives exchange serving more than 5 million users across over 150 countries.
